Fat.
Being fat today is a almost a social crime in some situations, but it Japan, it is a crime. Japanese law makers set a maximum waistline of 33.5" for men, and 35.4" for women, above the age of 40. Now although this law was done for health reasons, to avoid common health issues such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes., it is a touch too extreme. This law has had an adverse on society. Now although Japan has one of the lowest obesity rates in the world, a lot of people suffer from health issues related to being underweight.
Other countries are also taking steps to reduce obesity rates. A good one I found was Denmark, where they instituted something called fat tax. Where food containing fats and sugars are taxed for every pound of fat and sugar. In this way healthy food is actually cheaper (which is quite the opposite here in the UAE), thus encouraging people to buy healthy. The results of this are yet to be seen.
